The Genius called Ram Gopal Varma

A while back I had a site with the name bollywooddiary.net. I had added lot many posts there. But somehow, I lost the domain and the website. I had written this post about Ram Gopal Varma which I am adding it here again, just because it is important for me. It was originally posted on 13 Aug 2006 03:57 am.

Yesterday, I was surfing web trying to get some info on filmmaking. I got some good articles and I have even linked to two sites that I thought I would like to visit often.

I just instinctively decided to shut my laptop and watch TV, something I don’t usually do. I prefer television only when there is no work, else my laptop consumes lot of my time.

So I was in front of TV and usually I don’t watch News Channels. But while I was surfing, I spotted Ram Gopal Varma on CNN IBN channel.

Coincidences like this have become a pattern in my life so I knew there was something in it for me.

I watched the show then on till the end.

How it affected me?
Well, it confirmed my belief that Ramu is a Genius. I have believed that and even argued over it.
Ramu’s expressions, his self-criticism, his attitude and his candidness were sheer delight to watch. It gave me a tickling feeling as if I was watching myself on the Television. I personally feel I can relate with him more than any other director in Bollywood. Mahesh Bhat, Mahesh Manjrekar and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. I like, admire and appreciate their work. But then it is related to their work.
With Ramu the bonding is more on a personal level. Like a father takes pride in his child’s mischief knowing it’s just a part of his own. Same way I feel whatever Ramu does is part of me.

His thought process, his behavior…his attitude towards life.

It would be a real pleasure working with a guy like Ramu.

Awaiting the day when I get to meet the Genius called Ram Gopal Varma.
